World Book Day Celebrations!
Imagination is the fuel of the nation, a cherished quote from the award-winning novelist Sally Gardner who visited FHS on Thursday 2nd March in celebration of World Book Day and as part of the Women of Influence programme.
Sally treated girls to a lively talk, recalling her school days, which surprisingly were at FHS, and spoke at length about the importance of failing well. Sally was an inspiring role model, especially for girls with dyslexia. Sally is an avid spokesperson for dyslexia, working to change the way it is perceived by society and argues that its not a disability, but a gift.
Sally also touched upon the many themes within her novels, in addition to sharing her methods for writing and unique techniques to absorb and remember information better such as squeezing a foam stress ball whilst reading!
Thanks to the provision of books by West End Lane Bookstore in West Hampstead, many girls happily walked away with a novel (or two) signed by Sally.
Thank you to all those who attended the talk and asked such intelligent questions. Sally was hugely impressed and looks forward to returning again in the near future.
An extended thank you girls in the Thirds for baking an array of delicious cakes which were sold during break and lunch to raise funds for Book Aid International. Were thrilled to be able to donate £150 to this brilliant charity.
