On Thursday 16th June and Friday 17th June, the Thirds and LIV produced two fabulous performances of Sam Holcroft’s time-twisting play The Wardrobe, which follows the story of groups of children seeking sanctuary in a battered old wardrobe.
Here’s what Sarah in the Thirds had to say about her experience taking part in the Junior play:
For me, taking part in The Wardrobe was very interesting and enjoyable. The thing I found the most amazing was the sense of connection I felt. It felt like the spirits of the children who hid in the wardrobe were there with us as we rehearsed. Through those seven weeks of rehearsals, I met Elizabeth of York, not the proud queen I know her as, but as a scared teenager, proud to be chosen as Queen but reluctant to leave her best friend and sister Cecily. I met Mary, Sarah and Anne, some of the last ones left in London when everyone wealthy enough had fled the deadly plague. I met Lily and Grace, and heard and shared their struggles and Nell and Anthony, wartime sweethearts who were torn apart by war. All these people, these once living breathing children, may have died hundreds of years ago but still I felt connected with them and could relate to them like they were there holding my hand. I felt lucky, more than lucky, honoured and privileged to be telling their story. For me, that was the most special thing about being in The Wardrobe.
