Introducing the Equalizine elective and the inspiring women who drive it.
Equalizine, also known as “Zine”, is one of many exciting electives available to girls in the Lower Sixth. This innovative course offers students a unique opportunity to produce a self-published magazine which is available both online and in print format.
Each termly publication focuses on a specific contemporary issue, bringing together cultural, social and current affairs in a fusion of text and image. Students on the course are the driving force and are expected to bring forward ideas and issues which are pertinent to them. For their second issue, the Equalizine Team addressed the topic of migration and immigration, showcasing the works of revered artists such as Ai Wei Wei and Banksy.
Students work together to write articles, create artwork, design logos as well as outsource information, interviews and artworks to include in each issue. The course develops an extensive range of skills including creative writing, research, graphic design, layout design, editing as well as combining art disciplines such as printmaking, painting, drawing, collage. Members also have the opportunity to develop skills using InDesign, a software used across a range of industries.
The course is a fantastic opportunity for anyone considering a future workplace within creative industries.
