The last informal summer concert of the academic year showcased talents of performance across year groups. Girls delivered fantastic performances across a range of all musical genres.
Instrumental items included Evelina K’s outstanding flute solo of the appropriately named, ‘On a Summer Evening’ and Adianne G-S’s full-bodied performance of ‘Meditation’ from Thias by Massanet. A further string item, ‘Danse Rustique’ by Squire, was performed on the cello by Alice D with a full & resonant tone. The concert had 2 contrasting piano solos: Fiona J’s atmospheric performance of ‘O Danny Boy’ and Mariella C’s dramatic performance of Rachmaninov’s G sharp minor prelude.
Vocal items were varied and full of storytelling. Performances from musicals, included songs from Grease: Lila May drew us into the narrative of ‘Winner Takes it All’ and Sienna and Sasha performed contrasting versions of ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’. Lexi O-K gave us a strong rendition of ‘Cry Me a River’. Bella B gave us a tender performance of the Jazz standard ‘Misty’, whilst Leah W-L brought the energy with Celeste’s ‘Stop this Flame’. Lizzie H performed ‘Life I Never Led’ with musical intension and Blaise MacD & Alessia HR treated us to ‘Somewhere’ from Sondehim’s West Side Story. Donya B & Adianne GS’s voices were well balanced in their rendition of the Glee arrangement, ‘Pretty/Unpretty’. Daisy F performed ‘Pretty Funny from Dogfight with lovely vocal quality and real expression. Christina S gave us a wonderfully smooth performance of ‘My Funny Valentine’, whilst Donya B treated us to more Sondheim with ‘Being Alive’. Hero L concluded the concert with a fantastic performance of ‘Burn’ from Hamilton.
Very well done to all performers!
