On Tuesday the 20th June we held our annual FHS Inter-House Sports Day. We all woke up in the morning and looked out the window and thought to ourselves that Sports Day had to be cancelled for sure. However, the PE department had other ideas. They had been looking at the weather forecast for the last week and was certain that after the early morning downpour our luck was going to change and, true to the Met Office predictions, it did!

Around 9.20am students started arriving in their amazing house colour tops. The effort this year went above and beyond with students in Neptune dressing up as Smurfs. Extra points definitely went to them for best dressed. We started the day with a quick morning presentation and then moved on to some epic warm ups by each house. This year’s song was Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie by ABBA. Due to a soggy track we had to make a quick call to change a few of the running events around with 1500m and 800m going first. This allowed the track to dry out for the 100m and 200m heats later that morning.

Some highlights from the field event morning session included Reia (LV) jumping a whopping 4.27m in long jump and Leah (LV) flying over the high jump bar at 1.63m. On the track we had Helena (UIV) achieving an awesome time of 2 minutes 41 seconds in the 800m and Katherine (UIV) running a brilliant 5 minutes and 10 seconds in the 1500m.

We stopped for an amazing lunch by the FHS catering team and had some lovely artisan ice cream. The sun was coming out and the atmosphere was electric!

Lunch time was over in a flash and it was time for the afternoons events, this was set to be nail biting afternoon with some very fast track finals ahead.

It was time for the Lower Sixth track events and Charli ran a remarkable 1500m race achieving a time of 5 minutes and 2 seconds. Then we moved on the LV 800m where Imogen came on top with a time of 2 minutes and 33 seconds. Yvette (UIV) took to the high jump and gave us all a wonderful performance. She achieved a great height of 1.56m.

The finals were here and we had some fast races on our hands. Some notable moments include; Reia (LV) running an a astonishing 13.12 seconds in the 100m and Julia (UIV) with an incredible 28.06 seconds in the 200m. The day finished off with the Sixth Form vs Teachers relay, an event everyone was waiting for. The teachers came out on top with one of the sixth form teams just missing out on gold. They will have to wait till next year for a rematch.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students that took part in Tuesdayā€™s sports day event, and all the parents who came along to support. We couldnā€™t have made this day happen without the help of the PE department, our wonderful facilities, IT and catering team.

We can’t wait till next year!
