For our initial Sixth Form Lecture this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Yara Ghrewati, founder of ‘Wildeye Adventures’ (www.wildeyeadventures.com).

Yara is an environmental campaigner for tree conservation & forest regeneration.  She shared with our Sixth Form students how a gap year experience in Indonesia inspired her passion for forests and jungles. A qualified survival skills and bushcraft instructor,  and advocate for the healing power of forests, Yara spoke most engagingly about her experiences living with nomadic hunter gatherer cultures, where everyday life was about learning from the jungle and living symbiotically with nature.

After listening to her vibrant presentation, full of hope and encouragement, despite the ongoing crisis of deforestation, we were all inspired to take a moment to connect with the trees around us. Yara recommended Workaway.info as a source of possible gap year experiences for any students considering this.

Yara was featured in the Bushcraft & Survival Skills Magazine Sept 2017 issue on ‘Women in the Wild’ was 2018 & 2019 presenter of The Bushcraft Show. She has appeared on ITV News speaking about the importance of having a positive mental attitude in survival psychology.

We were thrilled to have welcomed Yara to Linhope House, our Sixth Form centre, to deliver her fantastic talk and impart such valuable knowledge.
