Marika Freris From Molecules to Boardroom
Marika studied Life Sciences at Imperial and then pursued her interest in genes and Biochemistry by becoming a bench scientist at the Wellcome foundation. Her involvement in research for Hepatitis C, HIV and Herpes required good communication with others conducting clinical trials. Her recognition that people and relationships are key led Marika into a Public Relations agency and in 2000 she set up her own company.
She encouraged the Sixth Form to find what really interests them, identify what they are good at, believe in themselves and take opportunities.
Marikas experience is that a degree can lead to work in that specific field but any degree develops an approach to learning and transferable skills which can be useful in many other areas too.
The most important thing is to find something which excites you, build trust and relationships, find creative solutions and embrace the adventure! Thank you, Marika!
