On Monday 18th March, we were honoured to welcome Abi Oyepitan to FHS to talk to Sixth Formers about her althetics career.

Abi Oyepitan is a two time Olympian and Commonwealth Gold and Silver winning track and field athlete. In spite of her later successes, Abi admitted that she was a late bloomer who didn’t quite reach the pinnacle of junior athletics. In fact, it wasn’t until 2001 that she began to take the necessary steps to become a world class athlete, ultimately reaching the 200 m Olympic sprint final at the Olympic Games in Athens. Abi was the first British female to reach an Olympic final in a sprint event in 24 years.

Abi shared stories of her exciting victories with us, but was also very honest about the difficulties she had faced, including the injuries she had sustained and the resilience needed to overcome her insecurities and doubts during her recovery.

A true example of real determination, we wish Abi every success in her new chapter as a mother.
