After a seriously tight House competition last year, to reignite the school’s House spirit, a Sixth Form Inter-House Quiz was organised. The new Lower Sixth were excited to participate in their first, Sixth Form exclusive competition. For their final year at FHS, many Upper Sixth also came along to help their House win. Energy was kept high with a supply of Maltesers and Squashies.
The tables were split up per House and there ended up being six teams (despite there only being four Houses, there were too many people from Neptune and Jupiter to all sit at one table). Then the quizmaster, Ms Slocombe, took to the stage to start. Several teachers had organised rounds in the quiz, varying from Disney knowledge to guess the colour of Queen Elizabeth’s hat(!) I think lots of the Sixth Form realised how little they knew about map reading and recognising countries from the first challenge! Each team was fortunate enough to have a member of staff on their table; this turned out to be very helpful due to their broad knowledge on niche subjects, such as the narrator of 2011’s “Winnie the Pooh”.
We all felt like winners after the quiz, but Neptune felt the most like it, with their two teams winning first and second place.
It was a great way to get the ball rolling on the 2023-24 campaign for the much-loved, One-Armed House Cup!
