On Friday 7th June, the Lower Sixth students gathered in Linhope House for their Higher Education Day to begin the university application process and start writing their personal statements.
In the morning, they created UCAS Hub accounts and reflected on the past academic year, providing their tutors with detailed reference material about their academic and extracurricular achievements, as well as their higher education aspirations. They then enjoyed breakout sessions which covered topics such as STEM degrees, international universities, degree apprenticeships and art schools.
The afternoon session featured an engaging talk by Jane Marshall, CEO of ‘Optimising Futures,’ on how to write your personal statements. She then led an interactive workshop where students exchanged ideas and discussed best practices for writing their own statements this summer. The Lower Sixth students should now feel prepared and motivated to work towards their goals over the summer. The upcoming Life Skills lessons over the next three weeks will build on this event, offering additional resources on how to write Personal Statements.
