On Monday 2nd October, the Lower Fourth went to Whitstable for a geography fieldtrip. When we arrived at the breathtaking coastline, we assessed two hypotheses about the effectiveness of groynes in trapping the beach by measuring the beach profile. We used poles to measure the gradient between changes in height along the beach. We then observed the impacts of tourism on the beach, such as how much noise could be heard. We measured this by taking a sound assessment. After a scrumptious packed lunch, we headed into town to observe further impacts of tourism on Whitstable High Street, and when our observations were complete, we bought a handful of souvenirs, including delicious ice creams!
