LV Art Trip to see Mike Nelson’s installation ‘Asset Strippers’ at Tate Britain
The visit with the LV art students to see the industrial machines collected and assembled in the Tate’s Duveen Galleries was both thought provoking and inspiring. The trip introduced the students to both conceptual and installation art and enabled the girls to make valuable connections between art, history, politics and society. As Time Out observed in their review of the exhibition, “You can see it as a metaphor for the death of an Empire and British pride, for the impact of Brexit, for the dire sadness of modern life moving too quickly”. So there was plenty to think about. It was also a visual feast and the girls discussed the work whilst observing, drawing and photographing the sculptures, to inform future work back in school. After two hours in the gallery, many of the girls were reluctant to leave, reflecting their keen involvement and enjoyment of the visceral experience of seeing art up close.Ā
