On Tuesday 5th September, we were delighted to welcome alumna Laure Chan back to FHS – her first visit in 14 years – to present an extraordinary violin recital in aid of the Quondam Sixth Form Scholarship.
A violinist, composer and recording artist, Laure holds several awards, including first prize at the 2023 International Golden Classical Music Awards. She has made multiple appearances on major radio stations over the years, and recently completed recording a concerto album at London’s renowned Abbey Road studios.
Laure performed a stunning array of compositions, including John Corigliano’s ‘The Red Violin Caprices’ and her own composition, ‘Insanity’. Throughout the recital, Laure’s immense talent and enthralling passion ensured her audience were left spellbound.
Laure commented on Instagram, ‘It was a pleasure to perform at my old school, Francis Holland, last night to raise funds for a new Sixth Form scholar. I studied here from 2006-2009 as a music scholar, and last performed in the (School) Hall when I was 14 on my very last day of School – so many vivid memories within those walls!’
We were especially excited to invite Laure and guests to Quondam’s first ever fundraising event in aid of the Quondam Sixth Form Scholarship. The Quondam community of former pupils and former staff feel passionately about giving the same chance to a talented pupil who would not otherwise be able to attend Francis Holland School.
With grateful thanks to Laure and all who attended this very special event in aid of the Quondam Sixth Form Scholarship.
