On Thursday the 13th and Friday 14th of June we had our annual Junior Show in the Hall.

This year it was two plays, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream and it had a cast of 30 girls. Our students also designed the lighting, the puppetry and their own costumes making this a true student led initiative. The two plays were chosen by Mrs Simmons to highlight how Shakespeare explored the theme of magic in his work. Macbeth was played in a stark way with purple and red lighting. All the ensemble became witches and spirits and the dark parts of Macbeth’s mind. A Midsummer Night’s Dream made the most of the chaos and fun that the play centres around. Again, the ensemble transformed from courtiers to mechanicals and then again to fairies as the story moved further and further into the magical forest. Two Pucks sprinkled the love juice into the lovers’ eyes and the ‘fairy band’ were played by a group of girls with ballet experience. Music and dance was at the heart of this magical story with music teacher Liva Zarina and gap year girl Frances Wright on violin and guitar.
