On Friday 25th March, the Junior Drama Club staged a production of Roald Dahl’s firm favourite Matilda, performed, directed and teched by the girls. It was fantastic to see them come together to create a whole production without any input from teachers, and we’re so proud of their tenacity and creativity. At times comic, at times heartwarming, the play was enjoyed thoroughly by all, bringing in the weekend with a bang. Here’s what they had to say about the experience:
Practicing and then performing Matilda was a fun and difficult, but overall a great learning experience. Whilst learning Matilda, pupils in Junior Drama Club also learnt skills, such as how to use facial expressions and how to perform complex choreography. It was fun and fulfilling and think we were all proud of ourselves.

Matilda was a time to make new friends in other years and develop our acting skills. It was a really fun acting experience for many participants, and the overall outcome was excellent. In this play, we not only focused on the script and lines that were written on the page, but also what to do if we forget a line, or how to react without speaking.

Matilda was really exciting to make and we learnt a lot of things as well as having a lot of fun doing it. We didnāt just learn how to act though; we were also taught dances and songs, which were especially challenging. It was also enjoyable to work with people and share this experience with them.
