The Independent Schools Ski Championships (ISSC) is a ski competition that schools from all over Britain take part in. This year it was held in Sestriere, Italy. A team of 7 girls from Years 8 – 11 went, competing against 20 other schools from across the UK. We had two days of training with the local instructors before three race days, and in the evenings, after skiing, we enjoyed many activities including ice-skating, a torch-lit descent, and a disco on the last night.
We took part in three races throughout the week; Giant Slalom, Slalom and a Parallel knockout. Francis Holland won three team trophies – second place overall in the Senior Girls Giant Slalom, with Emilie Paillat in Year 8 finishing 4th out of all the senior girls aged 11 – 18, and others finishing 18th, 31st, and 32nd; second place overall in the Senior Girls Slalom with girls finishing 9th, 23rd, 27th, and 28th; and third place overall in the Senior Girls. We took part in a parallel knockout, where we got past the first round and were in to the last 16 teams, but unfortunately we lost to Emanuel’s team of U18 boys. An extra shout-out goes to Emilie Paillat who won an individual award in the Senior Girls Giant Slalom U14 2nd place.
We’d like to give a huge thank you to Ms Hack and Miss Morgan for taking us and supporting throughout the races and the trip, and well done to everyone who took part.
