This week we were treated to a fantastic day of music in this year’s Young Musician of the Year Competition.
The morning’s activity saw pupils compete in the heats, during which we heard a wonderful range of performances from dexterous pianists, agile woodwind players, talented strings players and musical singers across all year groups. The girls performed a real range of pieces, from “Reflection” (Mulan, Disney) to Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D, all impressing our esteemed judges and making their decision a very difficult one.
The competition was adjudicated by Elizabeth Walker (woodwind), Will Harmer (piano), Miji Yi (strings) & Arina Mkrtchian (singing) and had prizes in the following categories:Ā Junior Level (Grades 1-3), Intermediate Level (Grades 4-6) and Advanced Level (Grades 7-8+).
After a short lunch break, the afternoon’s performances showcased the winners from each category in a competition final which made for a first-class afternoon of outstanding musicianship.
Well done toĀ all girls who performed and took part – a real testament to the musical talent we are lucky to have here at FHRP!
The category winners were:
- Junior Young Musicians – Sophia R
- Senior Young Musician of the Year – Daisy Q
- Piano Prize – Lillian A
- Junior Teachers’ Cup – Evelina K
