The very first Francis Holland Young Musician of the Year Competition took place this week.
Music could be heard in all corners of the school and there was a real buzz of energy as girls performed and supported each other.
The competition was divided into categories; strings, woodwind & brass, percussion & guitar, piano and singing and girls took part according to standard. Winners of each round took part in the Grand Final in the afternoon. We were treated to a real mix of repertoire and experience and all performers from the morning heats listened to the finalists.
It was a tough decision for the judging panel, including Mr Sam Queen, FHS singing teacher who left last year to pursue his online singing enterprise.
The final decision of overall winners were:
Young Musician of the Year – Junior Cup
Joint winners: Fiona J & Donga B
Young Musician of the Year – Senior Cup
Scarlett B
We are already looking forward to next year’s competition!
