Last Thursday, members of the student body performed Henry Purcell’s opera Dido & Aeneas in the Hall. It was a very moving and dynamic show, with a full professional orchestra and participation from girls of all ages around the school.
There was a full house for the performance, which featured Olivia Abbattista as the titular Dido and Yasmeen Siddiqui as Aeneas, in a tale of romance and tragedy about doomed lovers. It was written in 1680 specifically for a girls’ school, making it unique and well suited for the FHS cast. The Sixth Form voices beautifully encapsulated the ancient story.
It also featured Saskia Teeger and Ayesha Amin as Belinda, Amber Hill as Penelope, and Charlie Rhodes as the antagonist, Sorceress. With help from the lower school, the opera was a great success enjoyed by all!
