On Thursday, a group of Lower Fifth and Lower Sixth Classicists went on a trip to Bath. Our students were lucky enough to take part in a taught session, where they explored some of the Latin inscriptions found on tombstones and altars inside the Roman Baths. They were also able to examine real Roman artefacts such as coins and hairpins, which really brought the baths to life!

The afternoon session was a guided tour of the bath complex. It was fascinating to explore the various different rooms of the baths. The students enjoyed learning about how Romans in Britain used the baths for leisure, social and religious purposes. It was amazing to see how well-preserved much of the complex is, particularly the hypocaust system which heated the different rooms. Of course no trip to the Roman Baths is complete without sampling the mineral-rich water, which received mixed reviews from the FHS Classicists!

We had a wonderful day exploring the baths, and look forward to more Classics trips in the future.
