The second week of June at Francis Holland, Regent’s Park is a highly anticipated week. Staff and students circle the date in their calendars while the Art Department staff work tirelessly to curate and hang the work of all our GCSE and A Level artists. This year we had almost 150 young artists represented in the exhibition at St. Cyprian’s. The Art Exhibition opened on the evening of Wednesday 12 June and invited students, parents and members of the school community enjoyed an evening of celebrating our young artists and the Art Department at Francis Holland.
A joyous and colourful display of Thirds paintings and sculptures illuminated the chapel corner of St Cyprian’s and the Lower Sixth’s current work showcased a diverse range of ideas and processes. Our GCSE artists delighted guests with film, printmaking, painting, photography, fibre art and sculpture. Cityscapes, surveillance, surrealism and sewing, was displayed alongside portraiture, weaving, pop-up books and handbound sketchbooks. Our A Level artists stepped up to the challenge of holding the largest space in the exhibition. Paintings, film, installation, hanging sculptures, architectural models were all made to share ideas on themes of domesticity, transformation, identity, family and food, form and space.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements. I would like to thank the Art Department staff for their commitment to our young artists; Miss Orr, Miss Gardner, Miss Horn, Anastasia and Jeanine. The FHS Art Exhibition is a highlight in the calendar and we look forward to welcoming you again next year.
