Alumna Poppy Sebag-Montefiore presented a fascinating talk on Wednesday morning to continue our popular Women of Influence Lecture Series 2018. Poppy (class of 1998) is a British freelance journalist and co-founder of Never Again International. She worked for the BBC in Beijing and has written for The Guardian and The Independent.

During Poppy’s talk, she spoke of five things she didn’t fully understand whilst at Francis Holland, including how important feminism would still be today. She also gave a detailed account of how she “broke” into journalism by making the most of opportunities provided whilst in China and how a trip to Rwanda helped direct her involvement in her future projects. It was fascinating to hear how perseverance and having the courage to ask proved so fruitful.

To conclude, Poppy highlighted the importance of having good friends and how those she met at Francis Holland have been a huge support throughout her life.

Thank you to Poppy for joining us and we look forward to the next lecture in this year’s series.
