On Monday, truly in the spirit of Internationalism, Mr Fillingham organised a very special welcome to our new Thirds and Lower Sixths…

As our new cohort made their way into school at 8.15am, they were welcomed in by the Head Girl’s Team at the gates to collect their badges and then greeted by a Mexican Mariachi Band on the steps! Mariachi is a genre of regional Mexican music that dates back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of Western Mexico. The group consisted of five members playing trumpets, guitars and a violin and taking it in turns to sing, all wearing fantastic Mexican costumes in FHS red!

After a fun-filled first day, the whole school were serenaded on their way out at 3.30pm by a Caribbean Steelpan Duo! Steelpan involves striking a steel drum using a pair of straight sticks tipped with rubber and originates from Trinidad and Tobago’s early 20th-century Carnival percussion groups known as tamboo bamboo. Girls were also handed ice creams on their way out – perfect in the glorious weather.

We hope you enjoyed the day girls and are having a fab first week!
