This week we were enthralled by Emma, a fantastically animated speaker, who welcomed to our Sixth Form Centre to give a very human description of living with HIV. Positive for 33 years, she has defied early predictions and been an advocate for educating and informing to overcome prejudice. She gave great advice to the students as to how to maintain healthy and happy relationships, raising awareness of the issues and championing the medical research into anti-retrovirals that allow individuals with HIV to achieve U=U – Undetectable Virus = Un transmittable Virus.

Emma then invited our girls to engage in discussion and ask questions, such as: “What was your parents’ reaction?”, “What more could be done to de-stigmatise an HIV diagnosis?” and “What is the difference between HIV and AIDS?”

A truly inspiring afternoon, thank you Emma!
