Marie is a Polished Corner; she studied Music at Leeds University and is now completing an MSc in applied positive coaching psychology, focusing particularly on the factors which contribute to wellbeing in musicians.
She explained that it is possible to create new neural pathways in the brain, by building on our strengths to find ways to overcome challenges. Marie asked the Sixth Form to think about their strengths – things which energise them; and then to think about weaknesses – which drain energy and can limit us. It is helpful to identify the challenges and break them down into more manageable ĀSMARTĀ goals. Marie urged the students to have more courage; ask Āwhat is the worst that can happenĀ, then find ways to step past the anxiety to develop resilience.
This was a very engaging and affirming talk and prompted the Sixth Form to ask some insightful questions. Thank you, Marie, for this very encouraging talk and for the practical suggestions.
