The JP Morgan Artificial Intelligence Demo workshop proved to be a successful intellectual exercise where us students actively engaged with the concepts surrounding AI. These included the ethics behind AI-created artworks and the use of AI solely within the financial sphere. The talk was given by two data scientists and an investor of artificial intelligence; each seemed accomplished within their field and clearly outlined the basics of their jobs and the importance of their positions in the wider world, where technology is rapidly progressing.
Girls from Year 7 – 13 attended, each displaying their interests and concerns in regards to AI and its interaction with humanity. Personally, I was more concerned with the AIās ability to generate exponential models that could possibly predict the market so that we may prevent another financial crisis. There was a section on quantum computing and its use within financial modelling, essentially using quantum mechanics to solve complex problems at a high speed, but given its infancy, there is still uncertainty surrounding the topic. Overall, the workshop was highly useful and engaging, and given the enthusiasm shown by the girls, I think itās safe to say that they will have no problems immersing themselves into the ways of the future.
