PSHE

Polished corners come in many shapes and sizes, with different talents, religions and cultural experiences. 

Physical, Social and Health Education (PSHE), Citizenship and Careers Learnings an essential part of the polishing process. Our aim is to equip our Polished Corners with wisdom and humanity, and introduce them to some practical life skills that complement with academic curriculum.

PSHE nourishes the whole person, and encourages the development of emotional intelligence and a healthy lifestyle, to support her in her studies, in her relationships with others and at play.

Citizenship seeks to broaden a girl’s awareness of herself in relation to the communities in which she functions.

Aims

  • The aim of PSHE is to approach the development of the individual in a holistic way recognising that PSHE and Citizenship:
  • Have tentacles into many different curriculum areas, both compulsory and optional
  • Are fostered in the work of the school’s pastoral teams
  • Already flourish in the school’s extraordinary rich extra-curricular programme
  • Require a structured programme of lessons and tutorials to fill in the gaps and encourage girls to reflect on themselves as individuals, fulfil their responsibilities towards the various communities in which they belong and make plans for future study and careers based on sound self-knowledge and core moral values.
  • Play a special role in promoting SHEEP the five outcomes of the “every Child Matters” initiative:
    • Staying Safe
    • Healthy Living
    • Economic and Social Well-being
    • Enjoyment and Achievement
    • Positive Contribution

Within these subject areas, our aims are as follows:

  • To cultivate self-knowledge, self-esteem and confidence
  • To develop strong moral, spiritual & cultural values
  • To increase political & financial awareness
  • To teach girls to look after their mental & emotional, social and physical health in order to fulfil individual potential and contribute positively to the wider community
  • To promote good relationships, respect for others and an understanding of what girls can and should do to promote the wellbeing of others in the immediate and wider community
  • To enable girls to consider challenging issues that may face them at school and prepare them to make responsible decisions in adult life
  • To inculcate good study habits and independent learning

Career Conversations

The Career Conversations Programme aims to inform and broaden the minds of our students. Each month, students are offered the opportunity to learn more about a particular sector or industry from a guest speaker. The talks take place at lunchtime and are open to students in Year 10 and above.
